Grenoble’s international airport is ideally located in the middle of Rhône-Alpes (France’s second largest region in terms of its economy and population, ranking eighth in the European Union). The airport is a perfect point of access to the French Alps and France’s answer to Silicon Valley.

Every year the region welcomes several million tourists, many of whom are travelling to one of the many ski resorts. On the business side, many industrial and advanced technology firms are located in the Grenoble area.

 Within a radius equivalent to one and a half hour’s drive the airport serves a catchment area of almost 5.5 million people. It enjoys a central position, with direct access to Rhône-Alpes’ motorway network, via the Axe de Bièvre linkroad.

A new terminal building was officially opened in October 2002, with capacity of up to a million passengers and a high level of security. It represents an overall investment of €7.8m funded by the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, the Isère Departmental Council and the French government. In particular the airport has a 3,050 metre runway on which all types of aircraft can land (up to Boeing 747-400s).

 Its 45,000 sq m terminal apron can accommodate seven Boeing 737s at the same time. It offers services and facilities that comply with the most recent standards. Located in a non-residential area the airport is not subject to any serious environmental constraints.

The bus service between the airport and Grenoble is now managed by the Isère transit authority, giving it the benefit of the new rates introduced recently. There is a regular service to the bus station in Grenoble, connecting to services to local ski resorts and other regional centres. On the spot passengers will find all the necessary amenities: car hire, cash dispensers, bar and restaurant, newsstand and bookshop, duty free sales. With more than 500 spaces there is no problem parking close to the terminal entrance. Meeting rooms are available for use by business customers.
